PAST  PRESENT & FUTURE: 從小上英文堂學的 grammatical tense 與人的心理健康有關連!?

憂鬱症 (Major Depressive Disorder) 普遍的情緒是傷心 (sadness), 懊悔 (regret), 挫敗 (sense of failure) 與內疚 (guilt). 這些情緒的出現主要與”過去式”的思想模式有關: “如果…就好了….” (What if…), “那個時候多好…” 人將心思意念放在”過去”時序, “活在陰影下”, 累積下來就會產生憂鬱的症狀. 嚴重的憂鬱症患者會出現自我傷害或自殺的行為, 他們就是對於將來失去了動力與希望.

焦慮症 (Anxiety Disorders) 常見的情緒反應有憂慮 (worry), 恐懼 (fear), 坐立不安 (restless), 這些通常伴隋呼吸急速,  身體繃緊,頭暈目眩等. 這些反應主要與”將來”的思想模式相關: “假如…就…” (If…), “明天怎麼辦…” 心思意念放在”將來”時序的人士著眼將來, 而將來是”未知”與充滿變數, 過分著眼未來的人會思想混亂, 衝動行事, 失去焦點. 累積下來就容易引發不同類型的焦慮症. 嚴重的患者會出現驚恐 (panic attack).

很多時候人都會在”過去”與”將來”的思想抖纏, 在臨床診斷上, 一個人可以憂鬱與焦慮共患(comorbidity). 這兩種普遍的心理疾病以及其它的心理問題都一致缺乏察覺 the present (此時此刻).

因此, 「活在當下」, 除了行為上, 更重要是思想處於當刻, 留意察覺當下的自己, 建立心理健康的生活.
